Network Engineer Again
#career May 29, 2022 3 minI haven’t posted for quite a long time. I paused for a while and just spent my time working while playing games since the pandemic started. It was more than 10 years since I last played computer games. I believe everyone needs a break from time to time. I’ve been serious about my career that I forget how to relax. After a couple of years, I felt so bored doing the same thing again and again. A job opportunity came and I’ve decided to grab it for my career growth. Finally, I will become a network engineer again, doing the things I like to do. My previous job usually required me to break things up and test them, and now I will be on the other side of the court. Building a network from the ground up or making it work if something breaks.
The big day came and I planned to make a post at the end of the day, unfortunately, I caught a cold. I worked from home during my first week. The following week I worked at the office and was so excited to be in a new environment. I’ve gained focus and motivation once I’ve stepped back into an office setup, compared to working from home where there are so many distractions (plus the bed behind me is always so inviting 😅).
Maybe I should show you guys the office.
Entrance - Nothing fancy here. Just a vendo and a table with face mask and hand sanitizer.
Lobby - indoor plants and 2 private small rooms for attending phone call (left of the mounted TV)
Cafeteria - free fresh fruits, dishwashers, microwaves, fridge, and a Nespresso machine. Employees can buy pods for a penny. I got 5 pods in my welcome kit. I usually go for instant coffee because it is free.
Table Tennis! Oh, do you know that it’s all about the bounce? Playing Ping pong is a great way to improve focus, hand-eye coordination, reflexes, and quick thinking.
We don’t have individual cubicles in the office. Presenting my messy workstation. 1 laptop dock, dual 2k monitor, wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, wireless headphone, face mask I used for only 3 days. At last, it is not required anymore. There’s a coffee mug (there is no life before coffee), an old HP 2920 48G POE+ (J9729A) and a desk fan on my manager’s desk.
A gym beside our building. I signed the waiver to use this facility for free but not sure if it will ever happen. I invested too much effort in achieving my dad bod and I don’t know if I’m ready to let it go.
On my 2nd day at the office, we went to a data center. While my office mate is helping troubleshoot an old Cisco FMC appliance, I’m working remotely to update the configuration of a Huawei switch.
The company offers flexibility to work from home but I still enjoy seeing new faces every day. That’s all.
Thanks for reading. Cheers!
